First of all, I want to say, I love how this page turned out. Now, having said that, this page is lucky to exist! I knew that I wanted to show how to use some of your gelli prints that have already been made. I dug out some of my favorites and began gluing them down with matte medium. Yay! It looked amazing! Then I added some Dina Wakley heavy body acrylics. Yay! It looked amazing! Then I did some stenciling…still amazing…and then everything went bad, very, very, bad!!
My doodling and tracing did not turn out like I wanted and the more I did the worse it got. I was sure there was no saving this picture! This made me sooooo upset because these were my favorite prints! But I knew the page was ruined so I poured gesso over the entire thing! Turning the page a nice shade of failure grey. But my beautiful prints…..so I used a paper towel to maybe wipe away some of the grey…and the most amazing thing happened! The posca pen doodles and tracings were wiping away and the color was coming through! So I took my water and sprayed and wiped and sprayed and wiped until it was back to its beautiful collagey self.
Then once I found the rubbing that said “Lucky is a state of mind” I knew this was the quote for my page!! I wanted to make sure it stood out…so I decided to take some light yellow rub ons I had bought on clearance and add it just below the quote…BIG mistake! They were old and so they just fell onto the page…and stuck to my fingers and everything else they touched…and they crumbled. So I had to rescue my page by adding the washi tape over the top.
I added a horseshoe(ish) and some 777’s just to show how lucky this page was to be a part of my journal. This was almost a throw away page. Such a big mistake could have ruined the whole thing. But I didn’t give up. I didn’t let this horrible mess stop me from trying to get the perfect page.
So the moral of the story is…..Never give up! There are no mistakes in art! And always try and save your favorite prints. lol.
I did not edit this video at all except to speed it up. I want you guys to see that mistakes, that could totally tank your project, sometimes end up pulling the whole thing together. 🙂
